Casein Glue Formulation , also known as milk glue, is an adhesive derived from casein protein found in milk. It is a natural, environmentally friendly adhesive with a long history of use.

Key Properties of Casein Glue Formulation

Composition: Casein adhesive is primarily made from casein protein extracted from milk. Ingredients like lime, borax, or vinegar are often added to modify the adhesive properties and improve stability.
Water-based Adhesive: Casein glue is water-based, meaning it can be dissolved in water and cleaned up easily. It is non-toxic and safe to use.
Bonding Strength: Casein glue forms a strong bond on porous materials such as wood, paper, fabric, and leather. However, its bonding strength is typically lower compared to synthetic adhesives like epoxy or polyurethane.
Drying Time: Casein Glue Formulation has a relatively longer drying time compared to some other adhesives. It may require several hours or more to fully dry and develop maximum strength, depending on temperature, humidity, and glue thickness.
Application: Apply casein glue using a brush, roller, or by dipping the materials into the glue. Ensure an even layer on both surfaces being bonded, with proper alignment and pressure during the drying process.
Limitations: Casein glue is not suitable for applications with frequent water exposure or for load-bearing applications. It can soften and lose adhesion properties when exposed to excessive moisture.

Glue Making Product Guide

Casein glue is commonly used in woodworking, bookbinding, and restoration projects. It provides a natural and reversible bond, making it suitable for applications where future disassembly or repairs may be required. However, consider the specific requirements of your project and the materials being bonded to determine if casein glue is the most appropriate adhesive choice.

Always follow the formulator’s instructions and guidelines for the specific casein glue product you are making to ensure optimal results and safety.
