PVC blow molding compound is a versatile thermoplastic used to produce hollow plastic products. It offers durability, chemical resistance, and cost efficiency.

PVC blow molding compound Processing

1. Formulation

Manufacturers blend PVC resin with additives to enhance performance and processing. These additives include:

  • Plasticizers – Improve flexibility.
  • Stabilizers – Enhance heat and UV resistance.
  • Impact Modifiers – Increase toughness.
  • Lubricants – Aid processing.

2. Mixing and Compounding

Specialized equipment, such as high-intensity mixers or extruders, thoroughly combines the PVC resin and additives. This ensures uniform dispersion and consistent quality.

3. Pelletizing

The compounded PVC is transformed into uniform pellets for easier handling and processing. Pelletizing methods include:

  • Hot-cut pelletizing
  • Underwater pelletizing

4. Blow Molding

The PVC compound is heated in a blow molding machine and extruded into a molten state. The material is shaped into a parison (a hollow tube with a tubular cross-section).

5. Molding and Cooling

The parison is placed into a mold cavity, which closes around it. Compressed air inflates the parison, shaping it to the mold. As the plastic cools, it solidifies.

6. Ejection and Finishing

Once the product cools, the mold opens, and the final piece is ejected. Excess plastic (flash) is trimmed, and the product undergoes finishing steps such as:

  • Surface texturing
  • Printing
  • Assembly
